The Importance of the Gastroenterologist Field

Gastroenterologists specialists mainly diagnose and treat GI diseases in both men and women. They perform endoscopic procedures in which they use specialized tools to examine and diagnose the GI tract. They are traditionally not performing surgeries. Here are descriptions of what we offer.

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a test that is given by your doctor to detect changes or abnormalities in the colon and rectum. A flexible tube is put into the rectum during a colonoscopy. This includes a small video camera at the top of the tube and allows the doctor to view/assess the inside of the entire colon.

Polyps or other types of foreign tissue may be withdrawn by the scope during the procedure, if necessary. Biopsies may be taken during a colonoscopy. Usually, Dr. Maher will notify you of any findings immediately after the finalization of the process. A colonoscopy usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour.

Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C, sometimes referred to as Hep C or HCV, is a virus that affects approximately 2.7 million people in the United States today. Katy Stomach Doctor provides excellent care for patients in need of Hepatitis C treatment in the Katy area and beyond.

In fact, infection with Hepatitis C begins as a virus. The disease spreads when healthy blood comes into contact with infected blood or through contact with body fluids from someone who has Hepatitis C. Thus; this can happen by:

  • Transfusions of blood
  • Sharing a straw with a person to snore drugs
  • Transfer from mother to child at birth
  • Tattoos or body piercings made with contaminated needles
  • Eating someone with Hepatitis C from a spoon.
  • Having sex with someone with Hepatitis C

Another service we provide centers around Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory intestinal disease (IBD). Inflammation caused by Crohn’s disease can spread deep into the layers of the affected intestinal tissue and the various areas of the digestive tract. It can be both painful and debilitating, and in some cases, it can lead to life-threatening complications.

Crohn’s disease symptoms can go from mild to more severe. Usually, they develop gradually, but sometimes they appear suddenly, without warning. You may also have periods when you have no signs or symptoms, which is called remission.

When Crohn’s disease is active, signs and symptoms may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Unusual pain and cramping
  • Blood in your stool
  • Mouth sores
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Pain or drainage near or around the anus due to inflammation

Insurances We Work With

James Maher M.D. Gastroenterology works with a wide range of insurance companies. Our mission is to be as accessible to our community as possible. Be sure to check the list of insurance companies we accept. Our office is always open to assist you with any further questions or concerns you may have.

We comply with all of the guidelines set out in fourth place by Medicare, Medicaid, participating HMO, PPO, and POS plans. We appreciate that understanding health insurance coverage can sometimes be complicated and confusing. Knowing your insurance benefits will help to clarify your responsibility and help with possible uncovered services.

Many insurance companies will only pay what they consider to be the usual and customary charges. This varies with the insurance company. In these cases, you are responsible for any remaining balances.

If you do not have coverage from insurance, you will have to pay for all services within 45 days. You ‘re going to receive one statement. Therefore, payment shall be given upon receipt of payment.

Past Due Balances

Additionally, the account will be “delinquent” after 60 days. If you receive a final notice from us, you must pay your balance in full. If we do not receive payment after we have sent a final warning, we will send your account to the collection agency and list your failure to pay with the credit bureau.
